Reel in place, tucked up behind hinge and spring. Remember to leave clearance for spring when boot closes.
view down through rear window again
Rear parcel shelf installed again, with escutcheons slotted in (after belts fitted).
looking ok.
Repositioned the bottom bolt for the centre belt further down, on a more vertical section of the floorpan, in order to allow the fitting to swivel correctly. Blanked off original hole with M10 bolt and washers.
All in and bolted up
belt up...
Rear stay does not intrude too badly in the boot. Still need to refit the trim here.
Passenger side door pillar before starting to fit the last belt
Aluminium carpet trim unscrewed and pillar trim prised off
Bracket made earlier inserted into the box section of the pillar and bolted with two m8 bolts
Fabric of the pillar trim eased off the plywood backing and held apart with a block of wood. 22mm hole then drilled through the ply where the upper mount is required. Fabric cut afterwards with sharp scissors
Lower mounting hole drilled through the floor
Inertia bolted in place and aluminium trim cut in half and section removed to fit either side of the reel
Completed job
First trip with three kids in the back. One requires a booster seat still and that fits fine with these belts.
Child seat installed
Small holes in outer wheelarch - but if left un-repaired they will allow roadspray into area around the fuel pump and rot out that section of the boot.
Rot cut out back to good cleaned metal. Note rubber mudflap fitted by previous owner in place of the steel mudshield which must have rotted away
Repair patch cut from card and then steel, before being shaped to fit.
Patch welded in enough to be strong but not 100% seams due to closeness to painted outer skin. Gaps will be filled with seam sealer shortly.
Seam sealer first then a coat of zinc primer over it all. Waxoyl will go on next and that should be it for a while.
Time to fit the Pertronix Electronic Ignition kit I've had sat on the shelf for a couple of months. This is what you get in the kit for a 6cyl P4 100 negative earth
Dist cap off for a look
removed the rotor arm, the points and condensor
had to remove the baseplate to get at the wiring
removed the old wiring connectors and fed the two wires & grommet through for the new module
baseplate back in, then module (using wrong bolt at this stage...)
then fitted the black magnetic collar and the rotor arm
Tip: attach the two new wires to the old wire securely with tape and then pull through the pipe. Needs to be well done as tight in there with all the spark plug wires
and it should come out the other end
crimped and soldered two eye terminals on and hooked up to the coil
