GONE - I rebuilt this 1989 3.5L V8 Vogue SE Range Rover in 2002. It's done 100k miles, but its V8 still purrs along nicely, and a bit more cheaply now its using a direct injection LPG system. Sold in 2010.
65-96 (of 120 found)
some wear
one on one off
getting smaller
no horrors in the bottom end yet
scoring on number 1 piston
and here in its bore
number 5 looking well gummed up with stuck rings and...
... a some interesting ring land wear as well a bit of fragmentation...
pile of bits growing throughout the day
front cover
slack belt
cam
crank
mains
core plugs
oil pump stripped
spare engine "under the bench"... looking grim under the rocker cover
took the inlet manifold off
to reveal the onset of black cornflakes...
took a head off, and the bores look good though - still got honing marks
head is well carbon'd up
bores "look" ok at this stage
decided to stick with original engine, to mic'd up the bores to check for wear - reasonable
and the pistons to calculate bore-skirt clearances - reasonable
mic'd up the crank journals - all within spec
checked pushrods were straight and even
gave the bores a light hone and then washed and cleaned the block
fit ARP studs for the maincaps rather than the original bolts which have issues
crank in and caps on to 90lb/ft rather than 50 for original bolts
