the original Dowty Hydraulic PTO Pump fitted to the Log-Rover was a 2.5gpm model (the one on the right), the lowest in the range of four that Land Rover fitted. It did the job just fine.
However, after several years of watching, a 6.5gpm model came up on Ebay, so I bought it (the one on the left)
It's body is slightly larger
but engages just the same
and has bigger vane gears inside the housing to pump more
swapping over was easy (unbolt lever, inlet and outlet flanges, microswitch for sensing when engaged and then just swap and refit)
will need to put a larger diameter outlet house on next i feel (rather than just 1/4") - but even as is the splitting ram travels at double the speed (timed), but being safe i'll just drop the rpm from 2000 to 1000 and take a slight increase in speed as well. good job.
exhaust intermediate pipe blew apart at the flange when backfiring after starting trouble one cold morning
cleaned up and rewelded on the bench
all back together. charged up the battery and fitted some new spark plugs as well to help the starting on LPG ssue.
