NEWEST - Accidently bought this at a knockdown price due to an overheating engine. Dropped in a brand new 4.6 engine and now my daily runner
1-32 (of 107 found)
as advertised on ebay - cheap as overheating engine
ebay pic again - interior looked ok
ebay pic
ebay pic showing some damage
ebay pic showing some very damaged/stained alloys
bought.... unseen (other than those pics) but cheap (factored in having to replace the engine as expect a dropped liner), and now being shipped from london'ish to aberdeenshire...
arrived - and tucked away in the garage awaiting attention
checking the overheating - starting with the easy stuff - new rad put in, water pump whipped out
and it was rather damaged - notice two missing fins
new and old
got distracted by the worn leather on the steering wheel
so swapped it for a brand new genuine special edition version off good old ebay (prefer leather to the wood as well)
running now to check the overheating issue (still there)
those roof bars and sidesteps are going
plugs out - some different colour and deposits on number six electrode (second from bottom on the right of pic). also two types of plugs fitted...
engine before ripping in...
about half a day later...
end the next day - first head off - all looks ok...
but then second head off and yes, cylinder six (second from left in pic) looks different colour (piston and head) and signs of steam cleaning begining (indicating coolant in cylinder so must be a slipped liner in this case as no water channels close enough by)
second from left is the problem
on the bench
head gasket has a slight ridge in the fire-ring unlike the other cylinders - suspect this was caused by the liner moving (which also generated the ticking noise when running)
no clear sign of dropped liner in the bore, but rustier deposits around rim
Six stands out when viewed all together - second down from top right
looking a lot smaller now - needs a bit more work to release the block
awaiting some major new bits...
block out
just see a crack where the liner has moved in the block
big hole
flexi plate (goldish coloured circular plate) looks ok here
