front loadbed panel formed from chequer plate and a salvaged and re-engineered side toprail
riveting the front panel in place was tricky due to the limited clearance - had to raise up the loadbed to get inbetween
still tips ok with all the bodywork on - nothing fouls
shows the frame now covered with the chequer plate, as well as one of the locking bars put in place when working under the raised loadbed
as per the design, minimal clearance around the splitter-lifter. can also see the new (thinner) bodyfiller applied to the damaged wing
the second rear quarter panel taking shape, but not yet riveted in place
must be several hundred rivets used by now... the air rivet gun makes the job much easier
as I'd used some old hoop mounts as part of the galvanised corner sections, and as i had some old hoops in the shed, a quick trial to see how they'd look...
corner panel to protect rear lights constructed but not yet riveted in place
rear tailgate being built from scratch - frame, hinges and locking pins being tacked in place
frame all welded up, now cutting the sheet to size
not yet riveted on, but it'll look like this (along with both light covers now built)
opens up fine and can also be easily slid off to one side to remove completely
a few coats of Masai Red with the foam roller and then started to assemble all the bits
even the number plate gets fitted
bespoke tailgate is now all assembled and fitted
Badge and handles added, and everything still clears when tipped
this area on the drivers side will have to be altered to fix the LPG tank in (after removing the petrol tank, two outriggers, and some of the rear bulkhead)
underside looking quite neat
back end now complete with everything added and riveting finished
interior corner panels now fitted
just to prove the lights do actually all work now
this (plus a 90 litre tank) is what you need to convert an old landie to LPG - bought secondhand of Ebay - now just need to find space for the tank and time to fit it all...
if you buy a second-hand lpg vapouriser, it's worth checking the gas chamber to see if any "heavy ends" have settled out of the gas - there was loads inside this OMVL vapouriser (the sludge seen at the bottom)
sludge removed and vapouriser ready to be reassembled
Military "Wolf" wheels being sprayed up in Bernies spray booth, just before remembering to put the mask on...
escaping the garage, just to be turned around again
