net, washer, shim
raising the car up with the top arm, so the kingpin cover lifts
just checking inside of kingpin reservoir - will need a proper check later
manufacturing a suitable thickness washer to replace the original and spacer (ie. ends up +18thou) - need to drill centre out to 22mm
sits over the splines
all tightened back up
and now the 3 thou endfloat as per spec.
quick spray of waxoyl once the job is done to keep the rust away.
Rolling radius of original crossplies was 215cm
Replacement Hankook radials is 212cm
but the emergency spare is only 203cm
but does fit in the spare wheel well fine...
one side fitted
new method of topping up kingpin oil - 30cc syringe filled with EP90
and gently squirted into the air bleed hole until it gently flows out the filler hole on the side of the chamber - took about 5 seconds to fill...
finally all five radials fitted (inflated to 33psi) and the test run went fine - felt a lot more stable than the old crossplies and no heavier at parking speeds either
this is a spare voltage regulator, used to test out how to adjust the one I'd fitted earlier to the P4 to correct the water temp gauge over-reading
a second spare one (off old land-rovers) with the sealing glue chipped off the small adjustment screw (bottom right of the lower regulator in this pic)
one opened up just to show the workings - bi-metallic spring heats up, breaks contact, cools, closes - gives out about 10v on average - crude.
screwing out the small adjustment screw means it takes longer before the circuit is made as the spring cools, so lower average voltage output (so gauge reads lower)
