not all parts are equal - brand new Britpart senders (x3) giving out wrong reading. Genuine Parts are correct first time...
coolant gauge all working ok now - this was the reading when the 80degree thermostat opened up
drivers window not moving -time to investigate
panel off
winder mechanism coming out
loose rivet, bent arm, and alignment not right
left hand edge of quadrant fouling the left side arm here
removed spring
then drilled out rivet and released pin
in bits
straightened arm welded to quadrant - at a slightly different position to prevent fouling
primed
refitted and working
A couple of old ignition wires which have seen better days
Stripped down to component parts
old and new ignition wire
trimmed the end
added back "acorn" and copper washer
ready to go
out with the old
new ones fitted
different speedo issue this time, sticking needle (rather than wandering needle last time), as shown here
the pointer is fixed to the spindle which is fixed to the "drag cup" - the silver disk in the middle of the assembly
the cup should spin freely when "dragged" by a rotating magnet, but was getting pinched, i thought by the free play shown where this screwdriver is lodged
prise pointer and face off, start removing small screws and tiny springs
that oblong at the bottom is the rotating magnet
magnet spindle removed from housing but not possible to shim out the play. scratch head. reassemble.
decide to relieve the pinching by adjusting the other end of the cup/spindle/pointer assembly by slackening that tiny screw in the centre allowing more endfloat
assemble using tiny dot to align pointer, then rotate face around so stop peg is on the correct side of pointer
all back together, and once fitted and test drive complete found to be working fine.
